Sam Evans, UK

Sam Evans graduated from the University of Southampton with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Engineering Materials.  Since 1996 he has been at Cardiff University and he is currently the Head of the School of Engineering.  He specialises in the mechanics of materials with a particular interest in soft tissue mechanics and medical device design and testing and has published well over 100 journal papers and been granted several patents for medical devices.  Current research projects include surgical planning and navigation in the brain, mechanics of pressure ulcers in the heel, mechanics of soft cellular structures and soft materials under triaxial loading, and the development of antimicrobial bone cements, as well as several projects on nanocomposites for aerospace, magnetics and other applications.
